Sew a skirt

In this 5-hour workshop you’ll make a pencil skirt using a Butterick pattern. The skirt pattern is straightforward and ideal for a one-day workshop. It features a zip, darts, hook & eye fastenings, a choice of waistbands, and a blind hem. Additionally, you’ll how to lay out your fabric and how to transfer important pattern markings onto the pattern pieces. As a beginner dressmaker, these are all transferable skills that you will need as you start to make your own clothes.

This class is not suitable for complete beginners. You’ll need to be able to thread and use your sewing machine to a basic level.

The course price includes a genuine Butterick pattern that is yours to keep, printed cotton fabric, zip, and other materials you’ll need to complete the skirt. You’ll need to bring your own sewing kit that should include:

Fabric scissors
Small scissors or thread snips
Tape measure
Chalk or other fabric marker
Stitch ripper
Dressmaking pins
Hand sewing needles

If you don’t already have these items, we have a nice little starter kit for sale in the shop.
