Sew a simple apron
1 day workshop: 10am – 4pm
€85 (pattern and materials included)
If you’re new to machine sewing and want to learn to sew using sewing patterns, this one-day beginner sewing machine class is for you.
In this 5 1/2 hour sewing class you’ll learn to use your sewing machine with confidence, making a simple apron from a specially-designed, “Learn to Sew” Simplicity pattern. I’ll take you through the basic functions of your sewing machine, including threading and basic trouble-shooting and, after a couple of quick introductory exercises, you’ll be straight into first sewing project.
While most of us start sewing with ambitions of creating unique, fitted garments, the apron project will teach you how to use a commercial pattern. In this sewing workshop, you’ll learn how to lay out your fabric, how to transfer important pattern markings onto the pattern pieces, and how to interpret the instructions. The skills taught in this sewing class will give you a great foundation for using other, more complicated patterns as your sewing machine skills improve and you gain confidence.
The beginner sewing machine workshop price includes a genuine Simplicity pattern that is yours to keep, and the fabric and other materials you’ll need to complete the apron. If you do not yet have a sewing machine of your own, you can borrow one of ours. You will, however, need a basic sewing kit consisting of:
Fabric scissors
Small scissors or thread snips
Tape measure
Chalk or other fabric marker
Stitch ripper
Dressmaking pins
Hand sewing needles
If you don’t already have these items, we have a nice little starter kit for sale in the shop.
This introductory sewing machine skills class can be booked by contacting us using the form or calling 087 669 3331. Class sizes are limited and fill quickly.
