Garment repairs and alterations

This class will teach a variety of simple garment repairs and alterations using hand and machine sewing techniques on samples (clothes or fabric squares). The exact content of each of these half-day workshops will vary according to the abilities and needs of the group, but may include the following:

Button replacement
Buttonhole repair
Altering a hem
Expanding a waistband
Shortening trousers or sleeves
Zip replacement
Applying patches
Darning techniques
Adding in-seam pockets

Learning these simple repair techniques will extend the life of your favourite clothes, save you money, and  make your wardrobe more sustainable, by reducing the need to buy new. Mending clothes is very satisfying and, speaking for myself, I find sewing, particularly hand-stitching, quite relaxing.

No experience is necessary for this repair workshop, but hand sewing will be involved. So, please bring your reading specs, if you need them!

This simple garment repair and alteration workshop can be booked by contacting us using the form or calling 087 669 3331. Class sizes are limited and fill quickly.
